Skyscraper has been the talk of the town the day first of its types emerged on the earth. The Chicago Reliance building is a trend setter in Chicago for the fact that it was the first skyscraper which used large plate glass windows. The windows covered the major area of the building and gave it a total transparent look. Located at the 20th North State Street in Chicago the building really gives a reflection of the new era skyscrapers. The building in considered a national assert and was in 1976 it was designated as a National Historic Landmark.
The building was made in different bits and pieces to give the shape it has today. The original four floors were designed by the famous architect Charles B Atwood and this building of four floors started in 1890. The building of the additional ten floors completed in 1894-1895 and thus a huge change was given in the construction field. The Chicago construction method became a well renowned method after the making of this beautiful masterpiece. The Glass windows of the building have been given a tinted look in blue which really catches the eyes of all the tourists.
The building had a unique steel frame superstructure. This giant superstructure was built on top of the concrete base. The base was dug almost 125 feet in the ground below the ground level to give a solid foundation to the building which was not there before in the skyscrapers. It is indeed a national treasure for the people of Chicago.
